We are excited to announce the release of version 12.2 of our Backup Client software. This release features some very significant enhancements:

• FastBIT-3. Our newest file compression algorithm makes big advances compared to the FastBIT-2 used in previous versions of our software. FastBIT-3 achieves tighter compression, faster backup performance, hugely reduced disk space requirements for the local cache, and improved robustness for dealing with internet drop-outs and other anomalies. FastBIT-3 will be of great benefit to managers of large file servers, database servers and Exchange servers.
• Management Agent. Now included is a management agent which can communicate back to a Central Management Console for ease of management of multiple servers. This agent is installed automatically but is disabled by default for privacy reasons. The Central Management Console is free of charge. Please contact us if you are interested in using this.
• Backup Window control. The Scheduler now includes the option to stop the backup after a certain time period. This can be helpful, for example, in ensuring that the backup does not run during work-hours.
• Many other bug fixes and performance/stability enhancements.

This upgrade is highly recommended for all users.

Version 12.2 may be downloaded immediately from
http://www.backupexpress.com.au/support/download.php
and will install over your existing version 10, 11 or 12 installation without affecting any settings.

Note: After installing Version 12.2 you will need to manually perform the following procedure to enable the benefits of FastBIT-3. Until you do this your software will continue to use FastBIT-2.

• Open the Backup Client software
• Go to the ‘Device’ tab
• Select the online backup device, usually named either ‘xSP device’ or ‘Backup Express device’ and click ‘Properties’.
• You should see a ‘FastBIT’ Tab. This explains the conversion procedure. On the ‘FastBIT’ tab click ‘Upgrade Now’ to enable FastBIT-3 on your system. The conversion process may take some time depending on the size of your backup selection.

Once the FastBIT-3 upgrade has been performed you will no longer see the ‘FastBIT’ tab.
